The Notwist @Earth, London - Sunday 19th May 2024
I walked in to the venue and support act What Are People For? had just launched into the ending of their final number with 2 of the band gyrating on the floor and in the audience. I’ve been drinking non alcoholic beer so I know it was real and I’m sorry to have missed them. Looked fun.
What followed is maybe the best show I’ve been to. I’ve been listening to The Notwist for about 20 years but this is the first time I’ve seen them live. I will be honest. I didn’t expect the noise level. Didn’t expect to see the best drummer I’ve ever seen live. Didn’t expect there to be decks as part of the set up. Didn’t expect to see people standing up and dancing the whole way through - and I mean losing themselves. Didn’t expect the standing ovation and two encores. Not many bands blow me away but last night I was blown away and left processing what I’d witnessed. That’s the kind of band you want to see every night. That you want to be in. And that’s the kind of show that reminds you of the power of music. Absolutely sublime.
